Liverpool Football Club

Omar was passionate about football, and an obsessive fan of LFC. Born in Liverpool and raised in London, he returned to his birthplace in 2021, aged 19, to study at the University of Liverpool. This decision was in no small part due to his desire to be as close to Anfield Stadium as possible. On the 21st of October 2023, a flag in Omar’s honour was flown on the Kop, at the Anfield Derby. Family friend Nolan campaigned tirelessly to make this happen with the assistance of Omar’s Uncle Sadat. Our friend and designer Chris created the beautiful eye catching flag.

Nolan Stokes was interviewed by Neil Atkinson of The Anfield Wrap about Omar’s love for LFC, his tragic passing and the flag flown in his honour. Skip to 13 minutes and 50 seconds for the interview

'Extraordinarily Gifted’

Omar was a very, very special young man. A higher being who has just left a trail of positive impact.

I wrote this short poem about Omar, looking back over our text messages between 2020 and 2022. This was a golden period for Liverpool FC, just as Omar set off on his journey back to Liverpool for university and our beloved 'Redmen'.

'19 Times LA' was the first message that bounced in from Omar as Liverpool clinched their 19th League title.

My rudimentary Spanish within the poem, is a simple nod to Omar’s brilliance and he would undoubtedly have enjoyed taking the mickey out of me over it.

I still have my own conversations with Omar and told him last year, with great joy, '20 Times LA. That one was for you!'

I feel very blessed to have had the times I had with my dear friend (nephew) Omar and he is always in my heart and thoughts, as I bellow out at Anfield 'You’ll never walk alone’
